Surge Protection

Whole House Surge Protection in Lake Park, FL

Florida storms and everyday power surges quietly wear out the electronics in your home. A surge protector installed at your panel stops that energy at the door, before it reaches your appliances, your televisions, and your computers.

What Is Included

  • Panel mounted surge protective device
  • Protection for the whole panel, every circuit at once
  • Status lights you can check at a glance
  • Installed on a dedicated breaker by a licensed electrician

The installation in the photo on this page is our own work: the surge device sits above the panel it protects, with its status lights where you can see them.

Why Florida Homes Need It

Florida leads the country in lightning, and the power grid adds smaller switching surges all year long. Each one is a small injury to control boards, televisions, computers, and appliances, and the damage adds up until something expensive quits. One device at the panel is the first line of defense for the whole house, and it costs a fraction of replacing what a surge can take out in a second.

Whole Panel Beats Power Strips

A plug in strip protects only what is plugged into it, and most strips wear out silently after a few hits. Hardwired equipment never touches a strip at all: air handlers, pool equipment, and modern appliances are wired straight into the panel. Panel level protection covers every circuit, including those, and tells you with its status lights that it is still on guard.

Good Questions

Questions We Hear

Is whole home surge protection worth it in Florida?

In our view, yes. Florida leads the country in lightning, and utility switching adds smaller surges all year long. One device at the panel protects every circuit in the house at once, and it costs a fraction of replacing a refrigerator control board, a television, or a computer after a surge gets through.

How is this different from a power strip?

A power strip protects only what is plugged into it, and most strips wear out silently after absorbing a few hits. A panel mounted device sits where power enters your home and guards the whole system, including hardwired equipment like air handlers, pool equipment, and appliances that never touch a power strip.

Where is it installed?

At your main electrical panel, mounted beside it and wired to a dedicated breaker, like the installation in our photo above. Most installations are quick, and the status lights on the unit let you confirm at a glance that your home is still protected.

Does it protect against a direct lightning strike?

No device can promise to stop a direct strike, and we will not claim otherwise. What panel level protection does is absorb the far more common surges that travel in on the power lines during storms and switching events, which is where most real world electronics damage comes from.
